What it does

Ask SmartAssist what something on the screen means, how a number is worked out, or where a setting lives. You don't need to know what anything is called: "What are the little coloured letters by the dates?" works as well as "What are the opportunity badges?".

It can go well beyond a short tooltip. For example:

  • "Why is this break-even lower than what I paid for the shares?"
  • "What does the amber C next to Avail CC mean, and what would turn it green?"
  • "How is CAGR worked out for a put, and why does a shorter expiration show a higher one?"
  • "How do I import my Fidelity history, and what happens if I import it again?"
  • "Which setting changes the target the C and P badges use?"

Answers come back in plain words, with the exact path to any setting, like Settings → General → Options tab, and you can ask follow-up questions in the same conversation.

It knows where you are

SmartAssist follows you around the app. Open it on the Tranches view and it's ready to talk about tranches; switch to the options table or a Settings category with it open, and it switches with you. Each screen has its own welcome card with a few questions people often ask there, which you can tap to ask.

It also knows a few simple facts about the screen you're on, so its answers fit what you actually see. For example:

  • whether the coloured tranche lanes are showing in the options table, or the break-even bars on the chart;
  • whether you're on Lite or Pro, and whether your market data comes from Tastytrade or your own Alpaca key.

So if you ask "Why don't I see any bars?", it can tell you why they aren't showing on this chart rather than describing bars you can't see.

Opening it

Tap the ? in a speech bubble. You'll find it:

  • at the top right of the app, beside the ⚙ settings gear;
  • in the top bar of Settings;
  • next to Restore in any full-screen view.

On a wide screen the panel opens on the right and you can keep using the app beside it. On a phone it covers the screen. Tap the ? again, or the × in the panel, to close it.

The panel remembers your recent conversation in this browser, so it's still there after a reload. New chat starts over.

How many questions you can ask

Every subscription, Lite or Pro, includes 25 questions a day. The panel shows how many you have left, and the count starts over at midnight UTC. A question that fails to get an answer doesn't count.

SmartAssist is part of the web app at app.smartstrikes.app.

What it won't do

  • It doesn't see your data. SmartAssist never receives your positions, trades, balances or account numbers, only which screen you're on and the simple facts above. To ask about your own positions, use AI Analysis, which runs on an AI provider you connect yourself.
  • It doesn't give advice. It explains how SmartStrikes works, never what to trade, and gives no investment or tax advice.
  • It can be wrong. If an answer doesn't match what you see, let us know.

Privacy

SmartAssist uses Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. Your questions are sent through SmartStrikes' servers to Anthropic to be answered, and under Anthropic's terms they can't be used to train its models. SmartStrikes keeps only a count of how many questions you've asked today, not what you asked. Your saved conversation stays in your browser, encrypted with your other SmartStrikes data. The Privacy Policy has the details.

Keep personal details out of your questions. SmartAssist never needs account numbers, passwords, API keys, card numbers or email addresses. As a safety net, it checks each question in your browser before sending it, and holds back anything that looks like one of those, with a note saying what to remove.
